3. The dog must possess sound temperament.
-
The dog must tolerate people of all ages, races and behaviors.
-
The dog should not present a threat to any person or dog while representing PAWS.

The dog must be willing to approach strangers.
-
The dog must be capable of working with intensity, enthusiasm and remain focused and on task.
-
The dog must be able to function effectively and remain confident and controllable even with distractions.
-
The dog must have a good working relationship with the handler.
4. The handler must demonstrate good judgment and the ability to follow instructions.
5. The handler must demonstrate ability and willingness to follow PAWS Policies.
6. The handler must have a close rapport with the dog and must show the ability to reward and praise the dog effectively.
7. The handler and dog must be able to make an extensive time commitment to training and team efforts.
8. Search work is a group effort. The handler and dog must be willing and able to contribute to a team effort during training as well as on searches.
